POLICY 1. EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION FRAMEWORK
Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA) promotes an inclusive academic environment where all members of the community enjoy equal opportunities for learning, research, and employment. The University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Framework ensures that no student or employee is subject to discrimination based on gender, age, disability, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status or political views. Its principles are reflected in the University Statute, the Code of Ethics and the Anti-Discrimination Regulation.
Inclusive education is implemented through adapted curricula, universal design of learning materials and physical accessibility of campuses. The University monitors admissions and staff composition to ensure gender balance and representation of people with disabilities and marginalised groups. Annual reports on diversity and equal opportunities are published on the transparency portal (https://www.knuba.edu.ua/pro-akademiyu/zviti/), fulfilling THE indicators 10.2 and 10.3 on policy existence and public access.
POLICY 2. NON-DISCRIMINATION AND EQUAL ACCESS TO EDUCATION
KNUCA guarantees equal admission rights and non-discriminatory assessment for all students. Admission procedures strictly follow Ukrainian law and European standards of fair selection, without regard to economic or social background. The University provides reasonable accommodation for students with special educational needs and ensures physical access to facilities through ramps, elevators and assistive technologies.
Financial assistance mechanisms such as tuition fee reductions, targeted scholarships and partnership grants help students from low-income families. Information on scholarships and social support is openly available in the “Student Life” and “Social Protection” sections of the university website (https://www.knuba.edu.ua/studenty/). This policy supports THE indicator 10.4 on accessibility and social inclusion.
POLICY 3. SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
The University ensures full integration of students with disabilities into the academic community. The Office for Social Development coordinates individual support plans, academic tutoring and technical aids such as screen readers and adaptive software. KNUCA’s architectural facilities comply with national accessibility standards and undergo regular audits for barrier-free infrastructure.
Inclusive projects with the Ministry of Education and municipal authorities promote accessibility in urban design and construction, linking education and social policy for disability rights. News on these initiatives are published in the official news section (https://www.knuba.edu.ua/category/novyny/), ensuring public evidence of implementation.
POLICY 4. FAIR PAY AND SOCIAL PROTECTION FOR STAFF
KNUCA’s Human Resources Policy guarantees equal pay for equal work and transparent career progression. Salary scales follow state regulations and collective agreements, and all academic and administrative employees benefit from health insurance, paid leave, and parental support. The University actively supports gender equality in academic leadership and provides mentorship for young researchers.
The Social Development Department oversees welfare and retirement support, and annual staff surveys monitor satisfaction and workplace well-being. This policy corresponds to THE indicators 10.2 (inequality reduction within the institution) and 10.6 (staff equity and representation).
POLICY 5. INTERNATIONAL DIVERSITY AND MOBILITY
The University’s International Cooperation Strategy enhances social and cultural diversity by increasing the number of international students and staff. KNUCA participates in Erasmus+ KA171 and bilateral mobility programmes, ensuring inclusive selection criteria and support for participants from developing countries and under-represented regions.
Incoming students receive orientation sessions, language support and health-insurance guidance. Outgoing participants engage in intercultural training and reintegration seminars. All mobility agreements are publicly listed in the International Cooperation section, satisfying THE indicator 10.7 on safe and inclusive mobility.
POLICY 6. EQUAL REPRESENTATION AND PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNANCE
Students and staff participate in decision-making through elected bodies such as the Academic Council, Student Parliament and Trade Union Committee. All representatives are elected through transparent procedures and gender-balanced quotas. Meeting minutes and resolutions are published online (https://www.knuba.edu.ua/), ensuring public access and accountability.
Training on leadership, ethics and diversity is regularly organised for governing bodies. This policy addresses THE indicator 10.6.10 on inclusive governance and non-discrimination in university management.
POLICY 7. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND SOCIAL OUTREACH
KNUCA conducts community programmes that address urban inequality and support vulnerable groups. Students and faculty participate in volunteer projects such as “Architecture for Everyone,” designing accessible public spaces, and “Social Innovation Workshops” focused on inclusive urban reconstruction.
Partnerships with municipalities and NGOs enable social impact projects on housing, disability access and employment support. All activities are publicly reported in the news and science sections of the website (https://www.knuba.edu.ua/nauka/), supporting THE indicator 10.4 on community programmes for inequality reduction.
POLICY 8. CULTURAL AND INTERCULTURAL INCLUSION PROGRAMME
The University celebrates cultural diversity through festivals, language days and heritage events organised by the Department of International Relations and student associations. These activities foster tolerance, dialogue and mutual respect among students of different backgrounds. The programme encourages intercultural communication competences as part of global citizenship education, contributing to THE indicator 10.2.3 on inclusivity in university culture.
POLICY 9. DATA MONITORING AND TRANSPARENCY
KNUCA collects and analyses data on student and staff demographics, admission equity, mobility participation and scholarship distribution. Annual statistics are included in the public Institutional Report and uploaded to the university repository (https://repositary.knuba.edu.ua). Monitoring results are used to identify inequality gaps and develop corrective actions. This policy fulfils the THE requirement for publicly available data and evidence of continuous improvement under SDG 10.
